The counter you already have
We do not operate a usage portal for this QR. The phone is the meter, and it is accurate enough if you zero it at the right moment. On iPhone, open the Vietnam plan and note Current Period Roaming or the cellular data figure for that line. Reset statistics at the start of the day you care about, or simply subtract yesterday’s number. On Android, open data usage for the Vietnam SIM and set the warning to 4GB and the limit to 5GB if the menu allows a per-SIM limit. A warning at 4GB is more useful than a surprise outage in a Grab.
What the plan actually does at the cap
High-speed data is 5GB, then off, then back at 23:59 Vietnam Standard Time. There is no throttled unlimited tier to “get you home.” If the phone goes dead at 6 p.m., you either wait, use Wi-Fi, or buy another full plan. The day boundary is Vietnam’s, even if your home clock still says you are in another zone. A phone set to automatic time will follow Vietnam after it attaches. A phone set to a manual home time zone can confuse you, not the network. The network resets on GMT+7.
Hotspot bytes count. So do app updates you forgot to restrict to Wi-Fi. The biggest silent spenders are camera backup, video shorts, and a laptop. Maps and chat are small. The how-much-data guide puts numbers on those habits so you can decide before the trip whether 5GB a day is the right ceiling. It is generous for travel and tight for a workday of video calls.
Codes and apps that look official
Search results will offer Viettel USSD codes and third-party “balance” apps. *101# is a widely published Viettel prepaid balance check. On a normal voice SIM it can mean something. On this data-only tourist profile it may do nothing, or it may show a balance that is not your daily 5GB. We will not tell you to trust it for this product. Any app that asks you to paste the QR or the LPA string into a website is not ours. The only remaining-data method we stand behind is the phone’s own counter plus the published rule: 5GB, then stop, then midnight Vietnam time. Reset that counter when you land so the number on screen is the trip, not the last year of home usage.
Viettel has not published a balance code for this tourist profile. Until one is documented, the phone counter remains the method.
